Is the Great Barrier Reef One of the Top Ten Dive Destinations?

If you asked a dozen people for the best diving destination, 90% would mention the Great Barrier Reef. It is one of the diving locations best known around the world for both divers and non-divers.
The Great Barrier Reef is one of the largest reefs in the world and has amazing marine life. It is one of the ‘top ten’ diving destinations! This 1,200 mile long reef offers something for every one.
There are shallow reefs for the begginer and huge walls and drop off sections for those who are more advanced or adverturous. There are also shore dives as well as wreck dives available in this amazing place.
Here are a few spots recommended:
Heron Island
Coral Sea
Ribbon Reefs
Cod Hole

Welcome to Great Diving Destinations!

I have yet to meet a diver who didn’t have his/her favorite diving destinations. What has surprised me is the difference of opinion of what makes a great diving location.
Twenty-five years ago I married an avid diver. Since I was not certified that was the first priority. Back then we looked for fun, adventurous places to dive. We had a great time.
Now we two teens who have an interest in diving. Our criteria is much different. We also look for a place that provides a nice family environment as well.
Until they get comfortable with diving, I want a calm, safe dive location. (My husband is a little less protective still looks for high adventure.)
My goal is to provide a resource for researching great diving destinations and to hear what you have found. Visit often as we report on various diving destinations and get input from you
